This is the site of an ancient kingdom of Cambodia , Chenla. It predates the Angkor Empire, with many of the temple ruins nearly 1,400 years old, Southeast Asian travelers will find the brick monuments and temples similar to those in the ancient Siamese kingdoms of Sukhothai and Ayuthaya, or Pagan in Burma , though Chenla predated all of these. Along with construction similarities, the large number of structures in the area is also reminiscent of Pagan. There are 106 temple and monument structures in the degree to which they stayed intact over the centuries.

This early 10th century capital of Cambodia was the direct result of a power struggle within the monarchy at Angkor.Jayavarman IV grabbed the throne in Angkor and decided to set up shop somewhere else and what resulted is the ancient city of Koh Ker. According to Cambodians from the area, the city had around fifty temples. Following the king's death. The monarchy was again moved and seated in Angkor and was poised for a very significant period of the powerful empire's history.
 

Preah Vihear Temple

The temple ruins of Preah Vihear (Khao Phra Viharn to the This just across the border) were again opened to visitors in 1998, thanks to an agreement between the Cambodain and Thai governments and the disbanding of the Khmer Rouge forces.The agreement was a necessity because Preah Vihear Temple is a Cambodian national landmark..The Cambodian government opened the site to foreign visitors in a campaign to promote the country's tourist destinations and attract much-needed foreign currency. Preah Vihear temple is on the mountain rank of Dang Rek,is 800m x 400m, has very steep side from Cambodia and gently sloping side from Thailand, Preah Vihear temple is the historical site named "Se Khari Svarak" means power of mountain and was built at the end of 9th century and the beginning of 10th century by four King namely:1/ Yak So Varman I from AD 889-910 / 2 / Sorya Varman I AD 1002-1050 / 3 / Chey Varman II AD 1113-1150 /4/ Chey Varman VI AD 1080-1109.
 
 

Preah Khan (Bah kahn)

Preas Khan means Sacred Sword, which usually refers to the sword of a king or god (kings were considered to be godlike). Preah Khan is a complex of ancient temples and structures of the supporting city that surrounded them. It was built in the 10 th century for Hindu worship and later changed with the times to incorporate the Buddhist beliefs that evolved in ancient Cambodia . From Kampong Thom town to this turn off is 93 km (from Kampong Thom Market). .
